Shooting New Brunswick Rutgers

Two people were injured during a shooting that stemmed from a fight in New Brunswick, authorities said.

Both victims are affiliated with Rutgers University, according to campus police.

The shooting occurred near Easton Avenue and Hamilton Street at approximately 2 a.m. on Friday, April 5, New Brunswick police said.

The fight involved multiple individuals near the corner of Easton Avenue and Condict Street, and then continued when the individuals moved down Easton Avenue towards Hamilton Street, police said. Multiple gun shots were reported from that area, they said.

As a result, a female victim was struck by a stray bullet while she was inside her Easton Avenue residence. She was transported to an area hospital, and is being treated for the injuries, police said.

A male victim went to an area hospital with a minor injury consistent with the shooting incident and is being treated as well, police said.

Suspect descriptions are limited at this time and the New Brunswick Police Department is actively investigating the incident.
